To me this is the key point. There's no "us" and "them", there's only YOU and ME.
Racism is a systemic cancer and yet racism is also a symptom of a larger and more systemic problem: unwillingness to take the time and effort to engage with people as unique individuals of inherent value.
Skin color, gender, sexuality, age, weight; attributes used to categorize, discriminate, denigrate, and dominate others; attributes that in fact tell us little or nothing about the individual being categorized; attributes whose values become labels: black, white, cis, LGBTQ+, male, female, old, fat.
As long as we insist on engaging with labels instead of individuals we're always going to get it wrong.
